Revisions to two articles on facing your fears
February 19, 2013
I made some revisions to two articles on facing your social fears:
Why It’s Essential To Face Your Social Fears
This one I generally re-worded to make it easier to read. More importantly, I added a section explaining how the principles of gradual exposure often can’t be applied to social fears in a clean, ‘textbook’ way.
How To Face Your Bigger Social Fears Gradually
This one is mostly the same, though I added a section at the beginning emphasizing the importance of addressing any maladaptive thinking you have towards your social fears before you try facing them. If you don’t, you’ll tend to interpret the exposures in a way that can end up making you feel even more anxious and discouraged.
